Hi 😊 My name is Val and I make comfort cushions for patients recovering from breast cancer surgery.
How it started
In 2017, a month after my 51st birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After my surgery, my breast care nurse gave me a comfort cushion, the last one of a few that had been donated to the clinic and explained how to use it.
I found it extremely useful, especially at night.
I decided there and then that I would make comfort cushions for my breast care clinic. People started donating fabric, stuffing, thread.. The generosity of strangers is amazing. I got to work, making hundreds of cushions for all the patients of the clinic that saved my life.
But it is the wonderful feedback from these patients that prompted me to start a business. Patients talk about how useful they are in their recovery from breast cancer surgery and treatment, not just physically but emotionally too.
I set up Sewn For You Designs in September 2020 so I can now share how much little cushions can help post surgery with so many more patients ! And I also get to buy beautiful fabrics !!!

Expanding
In 2021, I expanded my range of cushions so that I now make cough cushions which provide support after heart surgery and abdominal surgery. I also make seatbelt cushions to make car journeys more comfortable after surgery to the chest and the abdomen.
Other ways to use comfort cushions
My customers are finding other uses for my comfort cushions. It is always a pleasure to know that my humble little cushions have helped people with neck and back problems feel more comfortable, or that they helped them emotionally whilst undergoing treatment. Comfort cushions make wonderful hug pillows.
My dream is for every patient to have a comfort cushion so I have made it my mission to spread the word that little cushions make a big difference.
